Membership

Membership in the SUE Association is primarily private sector firms that are engaged in performing subsurface utility engineering services. Additional membership categories  accommodate firms engaged in the manufacturing and/or supplying of subsurface utility engineering equipment, supplies, hardware, software or services that support but is not engaged in performing subsurface utility engineering services; government agencies, universities or other institutions of higher learning, non-profit organizations, or other entities not engaged in but with an interest in subsurface utility engineering; and individuals who would not otherwise qualify for membership under other categories.

Member Benefits

The SUE Association will provide programs and benefits to its members, and the public served by the members through the following activities

Professional Practice

The SUE Association will provide networking events, forums, and opportunities for discussions and information sharing to promote the highest level of business, ethical, professional and technical practice (procedures, technology, law, legislation, and trends) in furtherance of best practices; and promotion of ASCE Standard 38-02.

Continuing education

 Through conferences, workshops, seminars webinars, and other media and venues, the SUE Association will provide continuing education for its members to maintain and advance their professional, technical and business skills, keep current with state-of-the-art practice, and better serve their clients and the public.

advocacy

The SUE Association will implement education and information programs to enhance the understanding and use of SUE services by clients, stakeholders and targeted audiences, as well as legislators, regulators and the general public through public relations, communications, and advocacy.

certification

Inasmuch as there is not uniform state licensing law governing SUE practice, the SUE Association will the SUE Association will explore a SUE certification program.  This certification will authenticate that individuals have demonstrated a level of competence and experience that provides the public and clients a level of confidence that the SUE practitioner in responsible charge of their projects is an individual who has personally met established professional criteria.

risk management

The risk and liability of firms providing SUE services differs from other surveying and engineering activities.  The SUE Association will implement a special program to provide firms with the necessary coverage at premiums that are proportional to a firm’s exposure.

Membership Option

Regular Membership Firm


Any firm that is engaged in performing subsurface utility engineering services may become a Regular Member by making written application to the President accompanied by payment of one year’s dues. “Engaged in performing subsurface utility engineering services” means any private, for-profit organization where one of its purposes is managing certain risks associated with utility mapping at appropriate quality levels, utility coordination, utility relocation design and coordination, utility condition assessment, communication of utility data to concerned parties, utility relocation cost estimates, implementation of utility accommodation policies and utility design. A representative of a Regular Member shall have one vote on matters before the Corporation and may serve on the Board of Directors. *If your firm would like to upgrade to a Sustaining Member for an additional fee, please call the SUE office at (703) 787- 6665 Dues Structure: Dues for a Member Firm is based on the number of employees involved in Subsurface Utility Engineering activities, including professional and field personnel, as well as administrative personnel (CEO, marketing, accounting, HR, etc.) who are involved in or who support the firm’s SUE activities # of Employees Dues 1-10..............................$750 11-50............................$1,250 51-100..........................$2,000 101-150........................$3,500 151-250........................$5,000 250+.............................$7,500




Associate Member Firm


Any firm engaged in the manufacturing and/or supplying of subsurface utility engineering equipment, supplies, hardware, software or services that support but is not engaged in performing subsurface utility engineering services may become an Associate Member by making written application to the President accompanied by payment of one year’s dues. An Associate Member shall not have voting rights and may not serve on the Board of Directors. * If your firm would like to upgrade to a Sustaining Member for an additional fee, please call the SUE office at (703) 787- 6665
Dues Structure: Dues for an Associate Member Firm is based on SUE – related sales Gross Annual Revenue Dues < $1 million.............................$1,500 $1 million to $10 million...........$3,500 > $10 million...........................$7,500




Affiliate Member


Any government agency, university or other institution of higher learning, non-profit organization or other entity that does not meet the criteria as a Regular Member Firm or Associate Member Firm or is not engaged in but with an interest in the subsurface utility engineering field may become an Affiliate Member by making written application to the President accompanied by payment of one year’s dues. An Affiliate Member shall not have voting rights and may not serve on the Board of Directors. * If your organization would like to upgrade to a Sustaining Member for an additional fee, please call the SUE office at (703) 787- 6665 Dues: $2,500




Independent Consultant


Any individual who would not otherwise qualify for membership under the Regular, Associate, or Affiliate categories, is not affiliated with any firm or organization that would qualify for membership under the Regular, Associate, or Affiliate categories, has no employees, is engaged in consulting in or to the subsurface utility engineering profession, and provides a consulting service of interest to the subsurface utility engineering profession may become an independent consultant member by making written application to the President accompanied by payment of one year’s dues. An Independent Consultant Member shall have the same rights and privileges as associate members. Dues: $500
